Engineering materials are essential for today's technology, helping to improve energy systems, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, environmental technologies, and new biomedical uses. Material composition, processing strategies, microstructural characteristics, and long-term behavior under service conditions determine the performance, reliability, and sustainability of these technologies.
The Center of Excellence for Research in Engineering Materials (CEREM) is dedicated to advancing high-impact fundamental and applied research that addresses critical scientific and technological challenges. Our vision is to serve as a leading academic research hub where rigorous scientific inquiry is translated into practical solutions that support sustainable development, industrial competitiveness, and societal needs.
CEREM provides an integrated and multidisciplinary research environment, encompassing materials design, synthesis, processing, advanced characterization, and performance evaluation. The center is supported by state-of-the-art characterization and fabrication infrastructure, enabling comprehensive materials development from controlled synthesis and scalable fabrication to advanced structural, chemical, mechanical, and electrochemical characterization under relevant operating conditions. This end-to-end capability allows the progression of research from fundamental discovery to prototype development and technology validation.
Our research includes various materials like metals, ceramics, plastics, and nanomaterials, focusing on energy storage systems (like batteries and supercapacitors), creating sustainable materials, ensuring environmental durability, developing advanced separation technologies, and making high-performance structures.
Beyond achieving research excellence, CEREM demonstrates a strong commitment to education, training, and capacity building. The center actively supports graduate and postgraduate research, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and promotes knowledge transfer through partnerships with national and international academic institutions, research organizations, and industry.
